
Paul Toomey, MD
Dr. Paul Toomey, a highly regarded surgeon and innovator, has been shaping the medical landscape in Bradenton, Florida, since 2015. Originally from Hagerstown, Maryland, Dr. Toomey earned his Biomedical Engineering degree at Duke University before pursuing his medical degree and General Surgery residency at the University of South Florida. He completed an advanced fellowship in HPB and Foregut Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery at Florida Hospital Tampa, establishing his expertise in minimally invasive and robotic techniques.
Dr. Toomey is the President and CEO of Florida Surgical Specialists and Medreception AI, LLC, where he integrates cutting-edge AI technology with patient care. As a World Team Faculty member of the Society of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons, he has shared his expertise internationally, teaching robotic surgery techniques in Bulgaria.
An academic at heart, Dr. Toomey holds faculty positions at LECOM and Florida State University and has published extensively, with over 20 peer-reviewed articles and numerous presentations. His leadership roles include serving as past President of the Society of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons and directing the Florida Surgical Specialists Enhanced General Surgery Fellowship Program.
Committed to his community, Dr. Toomey volunteers as a general surgeon for We Care Manatee and serves on the advisory board for Care Net Manasota. Outside of medicine, he enjoys family time with his wife, Dr. Karen Matta-Toomey, an OB/GYN, and their two daughters.
