Scot Cranston has a wealth of experience in leadership roles and the medical field. He felt his calling to join the United States Army after high school. He served 13 years of active and reserve duty during which he received his education in Radiologic Sciences and Technology. During his tenure in the Army, He attended many advanced leadership courses that prepared him to be able to build and work with and within a team to create strategic action plans in order to achieve a common goal.
Following his role in the army, He was a manager at a cardiac catheterization lab, an electrophysiology sales specialist, a national sales trainer for Bard electrophysiology, and an account executive for Stereotaxis. He pursued entrepreneurial endeavors and was most recently the vice president & chief operating officer at Low Vision Works. He brings to Florida Surgical Specialists 18+ years of executive and entrepreneurial leadership, operational and financial management, and a solid business acumen that will undoubtedly help launch Florida Surgical Specialists to the forefront of surgical care in southwest Florida.
He lives with his wife Gwen and their two dogs in the Parrish area.He is a voracious reader, and when not reading, he and his wife enjoy spending time outdoors in their garden and traveling.
Christie Wilson has a broad experience in the medical field. She spent two years in the US Navy, then graduated from Medical Assistant School in San Diego, CA as a Certified Medical Assistant. Throughout the years she has worked in Family Practice, Urology, Internal Medicine, Urgent Care and most recently in General Surgery.
Christie brings over 30 years of experience to Florida Surgical Specialists with the past 10 years being in a surgical setting. She is a member of the American Registry of Medical Assistants.
She has lived in Bradenton, Florida with her husband Tim for the past 28 years. She is an avid sports fan and also enjoys reading, cooking and outdoor activities.
Stephanie graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with her Bachelors in Health Science in May 2015. She relocated to Bradenton in 2016 to start her healthcare career. She was hired into Florida Surgical Specialists where she was sent to obtain her Certified Professional Coder certification. Stephanie is in charge of our medical coding. She lives in Bradenton and enjoys spending time with her grandparents and going fishing.
Before starting her professional career in medicine, she spent time in the retail industry, then as a stay at home mom. Once her children were old enough, she decided to obtain her degree in Medical Assisting at the College of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, NC. After completing her education, she gained valuable experience working for an urgent care clinic in North Carolina before moving to Florida.
Once she settled in Bradenton, she began working with an Allergy Specialists then with a Primary Care physician before joining Florida Surgical Specialists in 2019. Brenda brings a get-it-done upbeat attitude along with a bright and vibrant energy to our practice every day and is loved by all the patients she cares for. Brenda looks to further her education in the future by completing her nursing degree.
Brenda has lived in Bradenton for the past 4 years with her husband David and their two boys. She enjoys a variety of activities such as gardening, riding motorcycles, and spending time with her children.
Sara graduated from Baker College of Flint in 2011 with an Associates degree in Applied Science. Prior to moving to Florida and starting her career in a medical office setting, Sara and her husband were entrepreneurs and owned a tree removal business in Michigan. Shortly thereafter Sara’s son was born and she made the decision to be a stay-at-home mom.
Sara and her family moved to Florida in 2019 from Flint, Michigan to be closer to family. Upon arriving in Bradenton in early 2019, she was able to immediately start working in a medical office and gained valuable experience on the inner workings of the field. She joined Florida Surgical Specialists in April 2020 as the front desk coordinator, and her passion for helping people has had an immediate and positive impact with our patients along with our front desk operations.
In her spare time Sara enjoys spending time outdoors kayaking and enjoying all that Florida has to offer with husband Chris and their young son.
Zachary is currently a pre-medical Biology major undergraduate student at the University of South Florida. He is hoping to gain admission into medical school. In July 2019, Zachary started at Florida Surgical Specialists as its first medical scribe. Zach also works as a research assistant for projects constructed by Dr. Toomey.
Prior to his work at Florida Surgical Specialists, Zachary was a scribe in the Emergency Department at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Outside of Florida Surgical Specialists, Zach works in Student Government within USF, is the Vice-President of the Pre-Health Professions Club and volunteers at Big Brothers Big Sisters.
His hobbies include reading, playing basketball, and going to the beach.
Zachary is a current student at USF working on a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a focus in pre-medicine. He is on track to graduate in 2022 and aims to attend medical school after.
After shadowing various medical professions he joined Florida Surgical Specialists as a scribe in 2019 as a way to gain more knowledge in the field of medicine. Zack is also part of the Florida Surgical Specialists research team as a research assistant.
He lived in Pennsylvania most his life and moved to Venice, Fl in 2015 for the weather and scholarship opportunities. In his free time, he enjoys the beach, surfing, and skimming.
Emily is a premedical biology student at the University of South Florida who is working towards gaining acceptance to medical school. She joined Florida Surgical Specialists as a scribe in December 2019 to gain more experience in the medical field. She has also been working closely with the research team here at Florida Surgical Specialists as a research assistant.
Emily has shadowed various medical providers throughout the years and worked as a dental assistant. Previously, Emily was heavily involved with Student Government. She worked to improve the budget process, volunteered on and off campus, and represented the students.
Emily’s heart for service motivates her to continue to grow and improve herself so that she can one day provide the best care for her patients. In her spare time, Emily enjoys spending time outside, playing the piano, and being with her family.
